7 Days Tanzania Luxury Migration Safari Tour Overview

If you don’t have a lot of time to think about how you want your luxury safari in northern Tanzania to be set up, these 7-day options might be helpful. Even though there are a lot of different places and areas that could be included in the northern circuit, these options have focused on just two of the most important places that should not be missed. The Ngorongoro Crater is a great place to go on a game drive and should not be left out of a northern circuit itinerary. When combined with the Serengeti National Park, this itinerary shows the most important sights in a six-night package that includes three different places to see animals.

Destinations

Day by Day Itinerary

When you get to Kilimanjaro Airport, a Mangokili Adventures guide will be there with a comfortable Safari vehicle, a bottle of water, and a cool towel. Transfers take about 45 minutes to get to Onsea House or 90 minutes to get to Katambuga House. This gives you time to talk with your driver about the area as you get used to Tanzania.

Depending on what time you get there, you can chill out by the pool with a cold drink and a good book or get a massage to get rid of any tension from the flight. In-house dining at either option offers a wide range of local and international dishes, so that everyone can find something they like before going to bed.

Overnight at Onsea House or Katambuga House

After a tasty breakfast, your Mangokili Adventures tour guide will meet you and you’ll start the driving part of your safari. As you leave the busy town of Arusha behind, head west. You will pass small villages and maybe a trading market. When you pass through the small town of Mto wa Mbu, keep an eye out for bicycles with big bunches of bananas on them. A game drive through Lake Manyara National Park puts you right in the middle of the Tanzanian bush and wildlife. The park is built around a large alkaline lake that attracts many different kinds of birds all year. Between November and April, you can see greater and lesser pink flamingos, as well as pelicans, storks, herons, and the flightless hippo. Keep an eye out for lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and wildebeest on the grassy plains and in the acacia forests. Before you keep going to Ngorongoro, have a picnic lunch and a cold drink in the shade.

From here, the road starts to go up, and as you go up the steep walls of the Great Rift Valley, the elevation changes. When you reach the town of Karatu, the road ends. This busy town is in the shadow of the Ngorongoro Crater and surrounded by beautiful, lush farmlands. It is the last place to get supplies on the way to the Serengeti, and its outskirts have some amazing places for tourists to stay.

Gibb’s Farm is a peaceful place to relax and enjoy fresh, home-grown food. It is located on a working farm. The Ngorongoro Farmhouse is near the entrance gate to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is in the middle of a coffee plantation.

Spend the night at the Ngorongoro Farmhouse or Gibb’s Farm.

The day starts early because you want to be one of the first cars into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and onto the crater floor. After going through the entrance gate, the steep road climbs the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater through a lush, dense tropical jungle until you reach the crater rim road, which has a great view of the crater. If the weather is good, you have to stop here for a quick photo before going to the road that goes down to the bottom of the crater.

Once you get to the bottom of the crater, you can have coffee and some breakfast snacks to get you through the morning while you enjoy the unique game drive experience. You can have a picnic lunch next to the hippo pool, where rafts of grunting hippos will keep you company while you eat and drink. By mid-afternoon, it’s time to start the trip back up the caldera walls to the rim and then down the outer walls back to your lodge, where you can clean up and have a drink in the bar before dinner.

Spend the night at the Ngorongoro Farmhouse or Gibb’s Farm.

After a tasty breakfast, it’s time to head back the way you came out of Karatu. Depending on the time of year, the drive to the south of the Serengeti will be short, while the drive to the north will be a little longer.

Early in the afternoon, you can get used to your new home and enjoy the view from your veranda. Early afternoon is often the hottest time of day, so it’s a good time to chill out in the shade with a book and a cold drink. As the afternoon goes on, you can have a cup of tea or coffee and a sweet treat before going on an afternoon game drive across the “endless plains” of the Serengeti.

As the sun goes down, you might have time for a “sundowner” in the bush. If not, head back to camp to clean up and have a drink by the fire before dinner.

Overnight at Ubuntu Migration Camp or Olakira Migration Camp

Usually, your Tanzania safari tour’s private vehicles go on game drives twice a day, in the early morning and late afternoon. You might want to bring a picnic lunch and spend the whole day out in the bush to see as much wildlife as possible. Consider going on a hot air balloon safari and taking to the skies for a unique and unforgettable sunrise experience. This will give you a whole new view of the landscape.

After your last breakfast in camp, head to the airstrip so you can catch a flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. The plane will probably stop a few times along the way to pick up and drop off passengers at certain airstrips. It will get there around noon. When you get there, get your bags and check in for your next trip.

Kilimanjaro Hike and visit of Tarangire and Ngorongoro Nationalpark We spent around 10 days with Mangokili adventures doing both a hike up Kilimanjaro, along the Lemosho route and visiting Ngorongoro and Tarangire Nationalpark. The hike up Kilimanjaro was amazing and the support we received by the team in terms of service and kindness was great, we really loved it. Also the trips to the Nationalparks were great and very interesting.

Very nice! We were a group of 3 friends who climbed the Kilimanjaro with the Lemosho-Route in 6 days (normally 7 days) and did a 2-day safari afterwards. From the point of interest to the actual engagement, every worry and question was taken care of by Mangokili Adventures. The organization worked out super well. We had 2 great guides, 11 great porters for the Kilimanjaro-hike and 1 great guide for the safari. Especially good for trips with a budget. We paid in total about 2.400 USD.Super content.

The tour was great with a very friendly guide and driver, the accommodation was outstanding The tour was great with a very friendly guide and driver, the accommodation was outstandingThe communication was great, always replied to our questions. The driver was good and even helped us spot animals on the safari while driving, the guide was easygoing and replied to any of our questions. The accommodation should be displayed as premium, we did not expect to arrive at a toilet inside the room, a bottle of water to brush your teeth, soap and clean towels provided, amazing food and chef, a lounge to chill and take beers/drinks. Pictures of the accommodation and food should be displayed as it was way more than we expected given the surroundings
