Serengeti National Park Safari Tour

Serengeti means “endless plains” in the Maasai language, which is a good way to describe it. Serengeti National Park is the second largest park in Tanzania. It covers almost 15,000 km2 (6,000 sq mi).

Serengeti National Park is the place to see the Great Migration.

Most likely, the annual migration of more than a million wildebeest is Serengeti’s biggest draw. When all those animals run across the Serengeti plains and across rivers in search of water and fresh grass, it is a very impressive sight. Mega herds that are on the move can be up to 40 km long and travel about 1000 km. The wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles are on a dangerous journey where they must outsmart their enemies. Giant crocodiles and fast-moving water are most likely to be found in the Mara and Grumeti Rivers. The Great Migration is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and for many travelers, it is the most exciting part of their trip. It is without a doubt one of the biggest wildlife shows in the world.

The wildebeest move in a circle between the Serengeti and Masai Mara, so you can see the migration at any time of the year (Kenya). How often it rains each year affects when the wildebeest migrate through the Serengeti. Because our guides are experienced Tanzania Specialists, we can make a pretty good guess.

Check out our page about the wildebeest migration to find out where they are at different times of the year.

Wildlife in Serengeti National Park

There is so much more beauty in Serengeti National Park than just the wildebeest migration. You can see landscapes and animals that you can’t see anywhere else in Africa. There are more than 4,000 lions, 1,000 leopards, 225 cheetahs, and 3,500 hyenas who live on the plains. Because there are so many wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and buffaloes, it’s no surprise that there are so many predators. The Serengeti is also one of the best places to see the Big Five, which are the rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, and leopard. This beautiful park has almost all of the well-known animals from Africa. This includes animals like the pangolin, the East African Oryx, the rhino, and the wild dog that are hard to find.

In the Serengeti National Park, there are savannahs with acacia trees and large grasslands, as well as mountains, lakes, and swamps. Each place is different and has its own feel. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of how beautiful it is and how many different plants and animals it has. This place makes you feel something deep inside.
