Day by Day Itinerary for 6 Days Luxury Tanzania Safari

  • Arrival in Arusha, Tanzania

You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha town. During the short drive (approximately one hour) your driver/guide will brief you on your African Safari.

Today you will spend your time at your leisure and relax for your upcoming exciting adventure.

Accommodation: Mount Meru Game Lodge, bed and breakfast

  • Day 1: Drive to Tarangire for afternoon game drive

Depart for Lake Manyara (from December > May) OR Tarangire National Park (from June > November) with a picnic lunch en route. Once inside the park, enjoy a game drive until late afternoon, then continue to your safari lodge for the evening.

Tarangire is famous for its huge herds of elephant and baobab trees. Throughout the dry season, wildlife will trek hundreds of kilometers to drink the reliable water found at the Tarangire River.

This in turn attracts predators, especially large prides of lions. Besides lions, commonly seen species include impala, buffalo, zebras, elephants, giraffes, wart hog, eland and waterbuck. Rarer animals like oryx, lesser kudo, roan antelope, wild dog, leopards, and cheetah can also be found here. The birdlife here is varied and spectacular.

Traveling June through October/November, we’d recommend a switch in accommodations to safari lodges such as Tarangire River Camp (Luxury) or the elite Oliver’s Camp or Tarangire Treetops.

Lake Manyara National Park, rimmed by the scenic 600-meter cliffs of the Rift Valley escarpment, protects a large alkaline lake and is home to a wildlife-rich savannah-forest mix.

It makes an outstanding introduction to Africa’s wildlife, with elephants, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, impala, waterbuck, and waterbuck roaming the park in healthy numbers while lions are also present. Dik dik antelope and klipspringer call the rocky escarpment landscape home.

Huge troops of baboon’s frolic in the forest openings, with blue monkeys present on the forest edge. Manyara also features nearly 400 different species of birds, including crowned eagles, crested guinea fowl and the silvery cheeked hornbills among a host of water-related birds.

    Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
    Luxury Accommodations: Escarpment Luxury Lodge

  • Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater, half day game drive

Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater, then descend down the crater for a 6 hour game drive.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a spectacular setting and contains an abundance of wildlife with over 20,000 large animals including Tanzania’s remaining black rhino. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is unique in that it allows over 40,000 Masaai pastoralists with their cattle goats and sheep to live alongside the abundant wildlife in a natural setting.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
    Luxury Accommodations: Ngorongoro Serena Lodge

  • Day 3: Drive to Serengeti, optional visit to Olduvai Gorge and Maasai village, afternoon game drive

Drive to the Serengeti with visits to the Olduvai Gorge and a Maasai village. Afternoon game drive around the Seronera area.

The largest national park in Tanzania and one of the most spectacular parks in the world, the Serengeti covers some 14,763 square kilometers including large plains, short grass plains, kopjes, and lakes. The Serengeti is the northern-most park in the northern circuit. It borders Kenya with the Masaai Mara continuing on the Kenya side.

The name “Serengeti” is derived from the Maasai language meaning “endless plain”. Every year, more than 1 million wildebeest travel in long caravans across the plains of the mighty Serengeti, all in search of better feeding grounds, followed by a large variety of other animals.

Not far behind follow the hungry lions, cheetahs, and hyenas Other predators such as leopards, serval cats, and jackals watch the wandering game with interest, and elephants, rhinos, and buffalo continue the grazing.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Luxury Accommodations: Kubu Kubu Tented Camp

  • Day 4: Full Day Serengeti, full day game drive

After early morning breakfast at the lodge, the entire day is dedicated to game drives in Central Serengeti, also known as Seronera. The areas you will visit will depend on where the migrating herds are.

Predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs closely follow the trekking animals and can be spotted in those areas. During the short rainy season in November and December, the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south.

During the longer rainy seasons from April to June, they return to the north. As the migration is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls, the location of the herds may vary from year to year. Your guide will know where to locate the animals for the best viewing opportunities. where is lunch

  • Day 5: Serengeti National Park - Ngorongoro Crater

Dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge

  • Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

After breakfast at the lodge, you will descend the crater for a game drive.

The massive collapsed volcano is home to over 25,000 mammals including the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – as well as spotted hyenas, rare warthogs, and over 500 bird species.
